Well the first mobile phone that was actually handheld, was demonstrated by John F. Mitchell and Martin Cooper of Motorola in 1973. This was done using a handset weighing machine c.4.4. Also in 1983, the DynaTAC 8000 was the first commercially available handheld mobile phone. Well the fact is that from 1983 to 2014, mobile phone subscription, across the entire world, grew to over 7 billion. This actually penetrated 100% of the global population and reached even the bottom of the economic pyramid. So guys these are some of the data about the mobile phones. Let me here mention some of the history now.

History of Mobile Phones

Well dear a handheld mobile radio telephone service was in fact envisioned in the very early stages of radio engineering. In the year 1917, Finnish inventor Eric Tigerstedt actually filed a patent. This is for a pocket size folding phone with a very few thin carbon microphone. The development in the field of mobile telephony have been traced in successive generations. This has been started with the zeroth generation services like that of Bell system’s telephone services and its successor.

Now after that there was first generation. The first phone handheld, was demonstrated by Mitchell and Cooper in 1973. I have earlier mentioned this in the previous section. Well Nippon Telegraph and Telephone in 1979, launched the first commercial automated cellular network in Japan.  After then, there came Nordiac Mobile telephone system in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Also then there were followed up of several countries. But the main thing was that there is an issue of Analog technology. Actually this first generation would support far more but still used analog cellular technology.

The second generation was the digital cellular technology. Radiolinja launched this in Finland on the GSM standard. After some years, there came the third generation that is 3G. NTT DoCoMo on the basis of WCDMA standard, launched this generation that was third generation, in Japan.

Now by the year 2009 , there were possibilities that 3G would be overwhelmed by the growth of bandwidth intensive applications such as streaming media. The first 2 commercially available technology billed as 4G were the WiMAX standard, offered in North America by Sprint and the LTE standard, first offered in Scandinavia by Teliasonera.

Smartphones

So guys, most among you know about this thing that is smartphones. Also most of you are having this as well. Actually smartphones have a number of distinguishing features and facilities for their users. The ITU that is International Telecommunication Union, measures those with Internet connection which it calls Active Mobile Brand subscriptions.  This type of the mobile phones are having wonderful features. That is why they have overtaken the usage of earlier all types of mobile systems. This account for half of mobile telephony in the developing world.

Feature Phones

Now the second type is that of Feature Phone. This type of mobile phones are actually limited in capabilities in contrast to a modern smartphone. The fact is that they typically provide voice calling as well as text message functionality, in addition to basic multimedia and other ones. Actually this type of phone i.e feature phone has additional functions over a basic mobile phone which is only capable of voice calling and text messaging.
