In 1934, an Austrian engineer Johann arranged a metal working and also locksmith shop in Mattighofen. Also in 1937 He started selling motorcycles of DKW and also then Opel cars the following year. During the second world war that was held from 1939 to 1945,  his wife took care of the business which grew mainly of diesel engine repairs. Well guys after the war, demand for repair works fell sharply. And therefore Trunkenpolz started thinking about producing his own motorcycles. In this very way the thinking of producing their own motorcycles start. Now the prototype of first motorcycle that was the R100 was produced in 1951. All of the components of the motorcycle were produced in house. This was except for the Rotax engine. In fact these engines were made by Fichtel & Sachs.

KTM Era

The fact here about the KTM is it began serial production of R100 in 1954. There amazing story about the KTM. There were just 20 employees in the very starting. And the most astonishing fact includes, with just 20 employees motorcycles were built  and the rate was also amazing. Actually motorcycles were built at the rate of three per day.

There includes a lot of stories when there is a talk about the KTM. The first title of the Company that is KTM here was secured shortly thereafter with the 1954 Australian 125 national championship. KTM first made an appearance in the 1956. And this was at ISDT that is International Six days Trials and this was in Enduro. Here Egon Dornauer secured a gold medal. Racing continued to be a testing ground for production technology. But next in line there was its first scooter , that was the Mirabell. This began providing a factory team or the ISDE in 64.

As the KTM manufacturer company continued to spread across the world, the workforce totaled 400 in 1971. This was really very amazing and very healthy for the company. KTM Sport Motorcycle

In fact KTM Sport Motor Cycle GmbH started operation in 1992. After that it took over another issue. Actually later it took over the sibling tooling division KTM Werkzeugbau. In 1994, KTM Sport Motor Cycle GmbH was renamed. And the name was KTM sport motor cycle AG after then. On the another hand it also began production of Duke series of motorcycles for roads. Then in the upcoming year that is 1995, the company acquired Swedish Motorcycle maker named Husaberg AB. And apart from this it also took control of the Dutch Company that was White Power Suspension. After then in 1997, KTM introduced another motorcycles. They were LC4 Supermoto and LC4 Adventure motorcycles.

2 Stroke development

Since many other manufacturers actually have made their mind to discontinue their 2-stroke models, on the other hand KTM manufacturer company  has continued. The company continued with creating and improving their 2-stroke models, also taking up a very high proportion of the 2-stroke bike market as well. Apart from this the company has also created a new 2-stroke bike named MX bike having 144 cc to comply with the 2008 AMA motocross class changes. This very extra thing has been made to bring back the 2-stroke bikes to encourage more entry to the market as the 2-stroke bikes are cheaper to maintain and repair as compared to that of expensive 4-stroke bikes.

Also environmental agencies have tried to remove 2-stroke machines. This was because they produce more pollution as compared to the 4-strokes bikes. But recent advances in technology, 2-strokes have begun to burn cleaner now. Also it started pass green standards norms. In 2011 KTM had changed the look of their two-strokes. Also the company re-introduced linkage suspension on the SX and XC models in 2012.
