What is the Full Form of RCCB

Residual Current Circuit Breaker

Definition of RCCB

RCCB stands for Residual Current Circuit breaker. RCCB is used to find the electrical leakage between wires and provide safety from electric shocks that happened because of indirect link. This is device used in serial order with fuse, this provide safety among many damages.

What is the main motive of RCCB?

RCCB main motive is to provide safety to all human beings from the danger of electricity related issues like fire, electric shocks etc. RCCB is mainly used in situations in which an immediate earth fault occur.

What type of RCCB available in market?

There are two types of RCCB that is mostly useful for protection.

  • 2 Pole RCCB: In the connection which contain neural wires and live wires or we can say that in single supply of electricity this RCCB is useful. Two ended RCCB is used to connect neural wires or live and rotary switch is used for ON and OFF purpose. To test RCCB functionality a button is also provided which is known as test button.
  • 4 Pole RCCB: In the connection which contain neural wires and three phase wires or we can say that in three phase supply of electricity this RCCB is useful. .  Two ended RCCB is used to connect three phases and neutral wire.

Both 2 and 4 poles RCCB is same in construction and it comes in many distinct rating like 30 mA, 100 mA, and 300 mA.

Benefits of using RCCB

As we all want safety from electrical devices any product that is approved by international mark is not require any explanation. Few of the benefits of RCCB is explained below:

  • It contains full products and all accessories related to that product.
  • It execution is very high in quality and give importance to details.
  • It is known as safety provided throughout the world and is approved by international mark.

What are the limitations of RCCB?

  • If load dose not generate any none standard waveforms then RCCB does not provide protection as this is only designed only for normal supply waveforms.
  • Changed or Modified RCCB can only work for pulsating dc and normal ac.
  • If current overload is very large then RCCB does not work as it does not provide protection in such case.
  • It not provides protection when conductor is not screwed or fitted properly or we can say that in the case of overheating.
  • As current in both live and neutral wire is balanced as this not give protection against live-neutral shocks. If any person touch both wires at equal time, person may get a shock.

Example of RCCB

Let take an example of a person who touch a live wire in circuit. In this case, if RCCB is not there in circuit, a person suffers from the risk of catching electric shock because of earth fault.

In opposed case, if RCCB is present in circuit, it will trip circuit and provide safety to person for not receiving any shock. Hence it is good device to be installed in electrical circuits for security purpose.
