Actually Modem stands for modulator-demodulator. A modem is in fact a network hardware device that modulates one or more carrier wave signals. And this network device modulates carrier wave signals to encode digital information for transmission as well as demodulates signals to decode the transmitted information. The main motive is to attempt for producing signal and that signal can be transmitted easily and decode to reproduce the original digital data.

Meaning of Modem

Well guys and girls here I am here before you to share many important important information regarding the very thing modem. As above I have told you that modem is nothing but a network hardware device. This device is having the function of modulating as well as demodulating signals.  This modulator demodulator which is a network hardware device can be used with any means to transmit analog signals, from light emitting diodes to radio. A more common kind of modem is one that turns the digital data of a computer into modulated electrical signal for transmission over telephone lines. But there is demodulation by another modem at the receiver side to recover the digital data. Given below I am mentioning some bulleted points about this modulator demodulator device. So guys go for this.

  • There are particular way of classification of the very device.
  • They are generally classified by the highest amount of data modems can send in a time unit.
  • The expression is usually in bits per seconds or bytes per second.
  • The symbol rate of modem actually classifies them that is modems. This is measured in baud.
  • Baud unit denotes symbols per second. Also it denotes the number of times per second the modem sends a new signal.

Some Facts about Modem

Well guys today everyone knows about the term modems. This is having wide range of applications nowadays in the field of technology. Here I will give and share with you many of  things about modems that will amaze you. New wire services used multiplex devices which satisfied the meaning of the very network hardware device. This was at the time of 1920s. However the function of modem was incidental to the multiplexing function. That is why they are not commonly included in the history of modems. Modems grew out of the need to connect teleprinters over ordinary phone lines instead of the more expensive leased lines that had previously been used for current loop-based teleprinters and automated telegraphs.

Guys and girls there is a history of this very device that is modem, a network hardware device. The famous Bell 103A dataset standard was also introduced by AT&T in the year of 1962. It provided full duplex service at 300 bit/s over normal phone lines. Also Frequency shift keying was used with the call originator transmitting at 1070 or 1270 Hz and the answering modem transmitting at 2025 or 2225 Hz.

Well guys in this section these are all about the modulator demodulator. Let me come on the next topic of modems. There are a lot of things that are quite interesting about modems.

Broadband

Dear if you want to know the history of the modem then you have to go to the previous section. This is because in the previous one I have share some of the history facts about modems. Here I am going to tell you about the properties and other things related to the Broadband. Now let me come on the point directly. ADSL modems is here. Well ADSL is in fact nothing but a modem that stands for asymmetric digital subscriber line modems. ADSL modems is the result of the more recent developments and so on. This very things is not limited to the telephone’s voiceband audio frequencies. Standard twisted pair telephone cable can carry signal with much higher frequencies than that of the cable’s maximum frequency rating. But this is for shorter distances only. Also ADSL broadband takes benefits this mentioned capability.

However ADSL’s performance gradually declines as the telephone cable’s length increase. Thus in this way there is limitation on ADSL broadband service to subscribers within a relatively short distance of the telephone exchange. Also there is Cable modems. And the cable modems use infrastructure originally intended to carry television signals and therefore designed from the outset in order to carry frequency of higher range. This is all about the concept of the very topic that is broadband. Let me move on the another topic.

Difference between Modem and Router

Well this is also one of the most important topic here. Here I would like to mention some of the differences between the modems and that of the router. Let me here point out some of the things to clarify the issues. Here are some of thee listed points. So guys and girls just go for the things that are mentioned below-

  1. Actually when subscribing to an ISP, they provide you generally with a box that connects to your phone line as well as to your computer.
  2. The box is usually having both that is a router as well as a modem.
  3. Well guys a modem is a device that negotiates the connection with your ISP through your telephone.
  4. A router is a device that is used to connect two networks together, here a network to modem.
  5. Earlier modems were in the alone devices. And the thing is that a computer or a router can connect the devices.
  6. It connects the router via the standard RJ45 and with the telephone line via the smaller RJ11.
  7. The job is very clear and simple. It is simply to translate data from one protocol to another since telephone lines do not use the same signaling and  transmission methods that are used in computer networks.
  8. Because of the above, data is not being screened by the mode and any potential threat would go through to your internet.

Router vs Modem

  • A router actually connect two or more than two networks. On the other arena modem connect in a phone line.
  • A router provides security measures to protect one’s network. But on the another hand a modem does not.
  • A router only connects to RJ45 connectors whereas modems need an RJ45 and an RJ11 for the phone line.
  • A modem is important to connect  to the internet whereas a router is not.
