About UAE?

It stands for United Arab Emirates. This is a country i.e. located at the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south as well as sharing his sea boarders with the Qatar and Iran.

It is a federation of seven independent states i.e. located in the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. The population estimates of the country in the year 2000 ranged from 2.6 to nearly 3 million.

About 85 percent population is urban. Abu Dhabi is the capital and also it is the largest city. It serves as the financial, transportation and communications center of a major petroleum- producing area.

Constitution and Legal Foundations-

The UAE’s constitution is established a federal government that leaves much power to the emirates. The government has executive, legislative, and judicial branches but the executive strongly dominates.

There are no political parties and no popular elections. The government institutions are modern in form, the base of political power is traditional and hereditary with the ruling family of each emirate representing its dominant tribe and region.

Because of the UAE’s oil wealth , citizens pay no taxes and receive generous social welfare benefits, including free medical and dental care.

Educational System in UAE-

Most histories of education in the region focus on political and military developments and are oriented towards a readership of Western specialists.

The written record of the history of education in the region is very thin. Archaeological executions in several locations in the UAE are, however, providing new information about many aspects of the region’s ancient past, including life in complex urban settlements that existed thousands of years before the coming Christianity and Islam to the area.

The Western education can be traced to the early 1900s when prosperous pearl merchants in the coastal cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah established three schools . The economic crises of the 1920s and 1930s and the decline in the pearl industry from Japanese competition forced these schools to the close, but other reopened when the economy improved.

 Higher Education in UAE-

The UAE’s younger citizens also have ready access to higher education at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in AL Ain, at recently founded all-women Zayed University in Abu Dhabi and Dubai , at the 11 campuses of Higher Colleges of Technology (HCTs) throughout the country and at many internationally accredited private institutions that at being established in the UAE. UAEU, Zayed university, the Higher collages and other federally funded institutions are tutions free.

The ministry Higher Education and Scientific Research control higher education in UAE. The Primary function of ministry is to plan and coordinates higher education activities in the UAE. The higher Colleges of Technology were established in 1988, initially offering two-year applied and vocational programs.

The university is most popular destination for students seeking higher education in the UAE with over 15000 students currently studying as its facilities. The instruction is most courses as in Arabic with several programs being conducted in English
