What is SDM?

SDM is a title that is given to the head official of a district subdivision also, an administrative officer that is sometimes below the level of district, depending on a country’s government structure. Each and every district is divided into tehsil. It is divided by tax inspector, collector magistrate .All these are comes under the charge of SDM. SDM is appointed by state government by state PSC exams.

What is role and duty of SDM?

SDM has all the administrative powers over a region. He has to see all the cases in his areas such as emergency fire, suicides, rape issues, accident etc. He can be order for a raid at any time such as child labour.

The first report for these cases goes to him, he also has a kind of judicial powers in that area, any case in that area is brought to him and prosecution charges are made if guilty etc.

Any marriage that is done by the couples has to go for the marriage certificate attestation and this is done by SDM.

What is the qualification and age limit of SDM?

Minimum educational qualification needed for the SDM is given below-

A candidate must hold a degree of any of the universities i.e. recognized by the government of India or declared to be a deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act 1956.

Minimum age criteria for the SDM is given below-

A Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the first of January.

Apart from the two above eligibility criteria the another important criteria needed for this is given below-

1. A candidate must be in a good mental and physical health and free from any physical defect.
2. The candidate shall not be appointed if he will not be able to full fills any of the above criteria.

The function of SDM is given below:

• Magisterial functions: It consists of Deputy Commissioners, Additional District Magistrates and Sub Divisional Magistrates exercise powers of Executive Magistrates and they are responsible for operating preventive Sections of Code of Criminal Procedure.
• They also carry out enquiries in cases of unnatural deaths of women within seven years of marriage and issue directions to the Police for registration of case, if required.
• Election Work: The District Officers are mainly responsible to conduct of Lok Sabha and assembly elections. The District Administration is also responsible for maintenance and revision of Voters’ Lists.
• Issues of Certificates: SDM is mainly empowered for issues of various kinds of statutory certificates that include SC/ST & OBC, Domicile, Nationality etc. Registration of Property documents, sale deeds, power of attorneys and all other documents which need to be compulsorily registered as per law is made or signed at Sub Registrar’s Office which are nine in numbers.
• Revenue Functions: It maintain land records, conduct revenue cases, carrying out of demarcation and mutations. SDM are designated as Assistant Collectors and also Revenue Assistants and are primarily responsible for day to day revenue work.
